Overlap Resolved:
Texas Board of Professional Engineers and the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners

The Texas Legislature recently passed House Bill 2284 by Representative Hardcastle. The bill seeks to end a long-standing disagreement regarding building design that has existed among some members of the architectural and engineering communities.

The legislation defines areas of professional practice that are exclusively within the scope of each practice and lists activities that can be performed by either an engineer or an architect. The bill also creates a process for engineers who were licensed before 2011 and have experience in the design of buildings to apply to practice architecture.
